Acid reflux is an uncomfortable situation caused by stomach acid flowing backward in the esophagus, resulting in heartburn and other symptoms.   • Regurgitation – This occurs when the fluid from the stomach goes past the esophagus and up into the throat where it’s felt as a bitter taste at the back of the mouth. In some cases, the liquid may breach the upper esophageal sphincter (UEL) and result in mouthfuls of liquid or food.
  • Nausea – As a symptom of GERD, nausea is not as common as regurgitation or heartburn. But even if it was, it would be hard to attribute to GERD as it is a symptom of many other common conditions.
